CONFERENCE-5th international IUPAC Conference on Green Chemistry - ICGC 2014

Warmest welcome to the 5th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry, that will be held in Durban (South Africa), 17-21 August 2014.

The main objective of the conference is to emphasize the importance of green chemistry for sustainable development, and to promote novel research and collaborations, by bringing together experts and interested parties from all over the world and from diverse bodies – from the academia to the industry and to governments. The conference will be a multidisciplinary event considering all the major areas of green chemistry, including green synthesis processes, catalysis, environmentally benign solvents, energy storage, biofuels, green chemistry education, policies, and many other interesting topics. Interfaces with other sciences and other research areas will be actively encouraged. Special attention will also be given to the roles of green chemistry in fast-growing economies and to the promotion of green chemistry in the African continent.

The natural beauties of the city and its surrounding areas and the rich cultural heritage of the country offer an excellent opportunity for combining an exciting high-quality scientific experience with interesting and pleasant tourist experiences.

CONFERENCE-Joint conferences: Eastern and Southern Africa Environmental Chemistry Conference (ESAECC) and 10th Theoretical Chemistry Conference in Africa (TCCA)

University of Venda (South Africa) in April 6-11, 2014.

The TCCA were initiated to promote the development of theoretical/computational chemistry in Sub-Saharan Africa, where it is still largely a scarce skills area. This year proposed topics include the computer-aided design of environmentally benign substances.

CONFERENCE-Symposium on Affective Dimensions and Educational Technology in Chemistry Education (BCCE 2014)

Scope: The affective domain refers to feelings-based constructs such as attitudes, values, beliefs, opinions, interests, and motivation. As opposed to cognitive dimensions, the affective dimensions in chemistry education received less attention by researchers. Educational technology on the other hand has been very popular in many fields of education, while it is slowly emerging in chemistry education. A branch of educational technology deals with Learning Objects (LOs), in which framework bits of reusable information are gathered in conjunction with guiding pedagogical and instructional theories to deliver instructional materials over the Internet. LOs could be effectively used in chemistry education at college or above levels to foster learning chemistry while supporting students’ emotional based needs through self-guiding, fast feedback, and individualized learning systems. This symposium will host the research and theoretical papers that are related to the affective dimensions in chemistry education that is enriched by educational technology implementations, LOs in particular.

The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments

The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments, written by Robert Brent, was a famous book published in the 1960's that was intended to explain to students how to conduct simple experiments at home. Supposedly only 126 copies of this book exist in libraries worldwide.

You can read the book from the below link free.

Facts...

"Facts become a part of us not when they are sprinkled over us from the lecturer's desk, but only when we jump into them and wallow around in them." R. J. Havighurst, J. Chem. Educ., 1929, p. 1128.

Why disruptive innovation matters to education

It’s important to remember that disruption is a positive force. Disruptive innovations are not breakthrough technologies that make good products better; rather they are innovations that transform sectors to make products affordable and convenient, thereby making them available to a much larger population. -

Special Issue: New Directions in Teacher Education

Special Issue: New Directions in Teacher Education

This special issue of the British Journal of Educational Studies will consider new directions in teacher education in the light of contemporary international debates in this area.  Papers may approach the theme from a variety of perspectives which should include discussion of future prospects and alternative scenarios in teacher education.
Papers for consideration should be submitted via the Journal’s online submission site at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/bjes by the end of May 2014, with final versions ready by the end of August 2014.
